Coach Jackie Ecker (jmecker@blueangelsfastpitch.net)

Coach Jackie and Coach Maeve teamed up in 2018 after just one season together coaching Archbishop Wood HS. Jackie has been the Varsity Head Coach for the Archbishop Wood Softball program since October 2016.  Since then, the Wood Softball team has won multiple District Championships and has made it to the post season in a very competitive league. In 2021, Wood appeared in the State Tournament and played an amazing game. In 2022, Wood had their best season in school history, winning the PCL, District XII, and 1st round of states. In 2023, Wood finished with a winning record of 14-9 including a first round win in the 4A state tournament.

She was the Head Coach of the PCL Carpenter Cup team in 2017, 2021, 2022, and 2023. Previously, Coach Jackie was the Head JV Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach for Archbishop Wood Softball. She brings with her a background of 23 years of coaching experience – 8 years as Varsity Head Coach, 2 years as JV Head Coach/Assistant Varsity Coach for Archbishop Wood High School and 13 years as head coach for St. Luke’s CYO which included 2 Region Championships.

Coach Jackie thinks that learning from other coaches can only make you better. Attending college and high school camps and hitting seminars furthers her knowledge of softball. Coach Jackie believes that fundamentals are key and “having the right attitude is the difference between softball success and softball failure.” Keeping players motivated and providing a positive experience on and off the field is imperative.

Having a female as my coach definitely sets Coach Jackie above most. Coach Jackie’s passion and commitment to helping mold young girls into softball players cannot be compared. She has taught me that there is always room for improvement in everyone at all levels, and my game has gotten better under her coaching.

Coach Maeve McGill (mmcgill@blueangelsfastpitch.net)

Coach Maeve fell in love with the game of softball at an early age. From playing wiffle ball in the neighborhood, to playing collegiate softball at Elizabethtown College, she has always been passionate about sharing her knowledge with others. Coach Maeve was a four year outfielder and two year captain at Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School and worked her way into the line up at Elizabethtown College as the starting left fielder. The 2014-2015 softball team appeared at the Landmark Conference Championship and finished as runner-up. Coach Maeve was named to the student-athlete honor roll all 8 semesters at Elizabethtown and was named an NFCA scholar athlete three years during her softball career. Being a captain of the 2015-2016 team taught her about grit, leadership, consistency, and communication.

Maeve's coaching career began in 2016 when she met Jackie Ecker and became Assistant Varsity Coach at Archbishop Wood High School. In the eight years she has coached at Wood, the team became District Champions and made a great playoff run in the Philadelphia Catholic League every year since. In 2021, Wood Varsity made an appearance at the State Tournament and lost a heart-breaker to Bethlehem Catholic. During the 2022 season, Wood won the PCL, District XII, and 1st round of the 4A State Tournament. In 2023, Wood made it to the 4A State Quarter-Finals and lost to Montour. Coach Maeve and Coach Jackie are excited to make advances in the upcoming years!
